Red Sea state is the proposed area for this project. In general Red Sea coastal areas are facing water scarcity and many villages lack for fresh drinking water. The only method for producing fresh water is by desalination technology of salty water. The raw water is either taken from the open sea or from wells. This proposal was designed for high brackish water taken from wells. The main objective of this project is to implement an appropriate drinking water treatment (desalination) plant tailored to the specific needs and constraints of communities. With valuable expected outcomes such as; improving the access to clean and safe drinking water for all communities, reduction in water pollution, waterborne diseases and associated health risks and improve the living environment of people.
Location: Tahmbok village, Sawakin locality, Red Sea state.
Population served by the project:
Tahambok village is located 29 Km West to free zone area, Sawakin locality, Red Sea State. As the there is no fresh water source available for drinking water because of the high salinity the only method is by using the desalination technology to provide clean drinking water. The total population living in this village are about 3,800.
Project description:
The proposal consists of implementation of a desalination plant to provide clean drinking water according to the international standards. This plant will use the membrane technology to convert the salty water into drinking water. The plant consists of raw water source (well), water tanks, reverse osmosis unit consisting of all necessary pumps and equipment, elevated tank, distribution 2point and a guard room. As there is no electricity available the plant will be operated by using solar energy.
