Enabling informed livestock decisions through accurate data and traceability.

 

Justification:

Timely and high-quality information and analysis help planners and decision-makers take appropriate action for upcoming livestock situations. It also enables the development of more effective policies and allows for monitoring their success in sustaining food security and livelihoods. A wide range of livestock stakeholders need the system to make informed market decisions.

 


 

 

Project Objectives:

  1. Provide accurate and reliable information

  2. Assist administrators in making appropriate decisions

  3. Support researchers and students with correct information

  4. Increase exports of livestock and animal products

 

 


 

 

Equipment and Requirements:

  1. Establish an information center and procure office equipment (desktop computers, printers, laptops, photocopier, camera)

  2. Network infrastructure

  3. Information technology system, including software and application tools

  4. Procurement of 200,000 microchips for Livestock Identification and Traceability System (LITS) pilot

  5. Development of necessary forms:

     

    • Animal registration forms

    • Departure and arrival forms

    • Movement permit forms

    • Health certification forms

     

 

 


 

 

Capacity Building:

  • Application of identification devices in selected feedlots and livestock markets

  • Entering identification data into livestock market databases

  • Reading and managing data in quarantines and export slaughterhouses

  • Using data in health certificates and movement control

  • Monitoring data flow and performance by the LITS team

  • Reporting on implementation, constraints, and impact on the cattle export chain
